A few years ago, when I still had budgies, I bred them, and the mother had many eggs, so I ended up feeding the chicks with hand-rearing formula.
Once, after giving birth, the male started losing a lot of feathers, especially from his head. We thought he was sick and might pass it on to the chicks, so we took him to the vet.
They asked us many questions about the relationship between the male and the female, whether he ate a lot, if he was hiding, or if he showed any strange behavior. We explained that he was very affectionate with the female and that we hadn’t noticed anything unusual.
The vet ended up explaining that the male was so affectionate that it was too much for the female, so she would peck him on the head to push him away, and those pecks eventually made him bald.
